Below is a list of the most commonly asked questions. To view the answer please just click on the question.
The provided syllabus together with the recommended books will help you draw up a teaching scheme. Once you have studied the syllabus and developed the teaching scheme, your teachers will give lectures as well as workshops to the student body where appropriate.
For the certificate level, the total study time is made up of up to 200 teaching hours per unit and it is recommended that an equivalent number of study hours are devoted to each unit. For the diploma 1, 2 and Advanced Levels, the recommended study time can vary between 200- 300 hours and the equivalent number of hours of personal study.
Entry directly onto Diploma Levels 2 or 3 will only be permitted if adequate evidence has been provided and the appropriate exemptions have been granted by ABMA.
For students to be considered for an exemption from some units within a diploma level or a whole diploma level, they will need to submit an exemption application. The Examination/Exemption Form will need to be completed, clearly indicating that they wish to apply for an exemption and the units they wish to be exempt from. They will need to attach a copy of their previous qualifications and any other relevant documents to support their application.
Once we receive this, the application is forwarded to the ABMA Advisory Board who will determine whether the student qualifies for the requested exemption. Your college will be notified of the outcome, via email, which you will be required to convey to the student. The fees payable will be detailed within the email sent to the college.
All exemption applications must be approved by the ABMA Advisory Board in London, well in advance of the student spreadsheet deadline to ensure that the student does not miss the examination.
To run additional ABMA courses it is necessary to assess whether there is a demand from students to undertake the course. It will support your application to offer new ABMA courses if evidence of your student's interest can be provided. Please provide us with the list of the student's names wishing to do the above mentioned courses and the Curriculum Vitae's (CVs) of the staff you wish to teach the courses. This information will then be forwarded to our Advisory Board for approval. Should the new course be granted the full syllabus and marketing materials to advertise the availability of this new course at your institution will be sent to your college. However, you must not start teaching the course until your college has been approved to run that course.
The selection of teachers is an important stage and we recommend that you should follow the following criteria:
We are recognised by several British and American universities who will accept individual applications for bachelor courses from students attaining a credit or distinction on the ABMA Advanced Diploma. These can be viewed in the colleges section of the website under universities.
It is the responsibility of the student to identify a course they would like to undertake, and make the necessary application.
Regarding the university tuition fees, each individual student is responsible for funding their own studies. This means either providing the finance from family and friends or finding a sponsor to pay the fees on your behalf. They should be advised to the level of fees of the universities listed on our website and access the website of their chosen university. They should then make plans to cover the required finance.
Students will need to have passed the ABMA Advanced Diploma on this course before submitting any application. Once you have made an application, and received feedback from the university, ABMA will then be happy to liaise with your chosen university on your behalf.
ABMA will then write to that university, advise them of the course that the student has taken and outline the benefits that they would gain from accepting our student onto the course. Remember, it is important that you apply well in advance to avoid disappointment as universities impose a closing date on student applications.
This pack will include the full syllabus for each of the courses you have chosen. The syllabus is a comprehensive guide to the subject, from which you and your teaching staff can form the necessary teaching schemes. Also included is a recommended reading list of books. Your institution may already have these books or indeed similar material that covers the necessary subject matter. Should this be the case, please write to us with the book title and author in order so that we can authorise the use of this material.
Also within the pack will be registration and examination forms, examination procedures and various marketing material including some posters, ABMA door and window stickers and course outlines. Sample examination papers are available to be downloaded from our Past Papers section of the website. Once your college has undertaken a successful examination series, you will receive an ABMA Affiliation Certificate confirming your status, which you can proudly display in a prominent position.
